Cool places to hang out in the canyons (key geographic locations):~ Harley's Rock Inn Home Page_~ Map to Harley's Rock Inn
A rustic bed & breakfast; nice place to stop and cool your heels. Draws out the local blue collar crowd weeknights, and for the weeknight dinner and drink specials. They begin taking New Years reservations 01 September. A place your better half will definitely enjoy. Parking is scarce, however. Tph# (661) 724-1855
~ Three Points_~ Map to Three Points Stage Stop
Established 1914, and still puttering along. Out in the middle of nowhere, a charming, antiquated stage coach stop that serviced engineers and laborers during construction of Old Ridge Route, just before W.W. I. Little changed by time, all out there by itself, middle of nowhere. Excellent site selection for a canyon driving intermediate.
~ The Rock Store_~ Map to The Rock Store
Hollywood celebrities; great pancakes, great coffee, great service. No one in the history of canyon driving was ever disappointed, after having stopped there (I like this place; we always stop there).
~ Neptune's_~ Map to Neptune's: No web site
Seafood Grill overlooking the Pacific Ocean. Ample parking. Out houses serve as restrooms. Plenty of shade; after Yerba Buena, fine looking females, sunning themselves, life is good. Very good place to chill, while your piping hot brakes cool down from the drive.
~ Newcomb's Ranch Cafe_~ Map to Newcomb's Ranch Cafe: No Home Page
Rustic. Ample parking. I like the people who run this cafe. Located 6,300 ft. in elevation; 29 Miles west of Big Pines, on Angeles Crest Hwy. Pool table, ping pong, they do the dead cafe racer thing, pinning their pictures up, on the wall. Place is up for sale (caveat emptor). If you're planning to use this KGL as a rally intermediate, the folks up there asked me to reiterate to you their gratitude to those who call in advance to tell them how many cars you'll have in your caravan. In the real world, common courtesy such as this is axiomatic. Planning driving events, we recommend you think twice. Doing so, you could inadvertently trigger your own speed trap. We've had problem with this sort of thing on Angeles Crest or Angeles Forest before. It's up to you: Tph (626) 440-1001, ask for Terry (...a nice looking woman).
~ Hidden Creek Inn_~ Map to Hidden Creek Inn: No Home Page
Mile North of the tunnel on Angeles Forest Hwy. Unless we absolutely have to, we generally don't waste out time stopping there. Salty attitude behind the counter. Parking is tight.
~ Vincent Hill Station_~ Map to Vincent Hill Station: No Home Page
Nice restaurant! We much prefer this, to the Hidden Springs KGL. Place was once a cowboy saloon, long ago, located 553 W. Sierra Hwy, just west of Angeles Forest Hwy, on Sierra Hwy. Tph# (661) 272-4799
Overpriced restaurant. Extensive wine cellar. Expect door dings (...valet sucks). Food is adequate. If perchance you wish to make an impression, then this joint certainly has the ambiance to impress 95% of the female gender, biased left on the standard normal curve. Thp# (818) 222-3888 (...dress appropriately).

~ Highway Robbery: http://highwayrobbery.net/redlightcamscameras.htm
Sad to say, a necessary resource: Location of all traffic enforcement cameras, in California, ever shrinking yellow light intervals, how many motorists are getting boned, by predatory bureaucracies. This site is dedicated to telling you what to do, and what NOT to do, if you get a traffic ticket, in the mail (e.g., long drives, across California, you'd best remove your front license plate). Revenue bureaucracy extorts, from its own citizens, by use of these cameras, is staggering. Police state tactics. Soccer moms, elected to high office, writing Draconian policy. Bureaucracy, run amok...
~ National Motorist's Association: http://www.motorists.org/
A special interest group (e.g., MADD syndrom). The very thing it is they stand for, is the very thing that's most detrimental, to the efficacy of their organization (e.g., the more Draconian laws they impose, the better it is, for the NMA). Though they need to rethink their position, on insurance, it's been thus far seldom the NMA takes a position, on an issue, which we don't agree [exception: automobiles do not constitute pure risk; it is a statistical certainty they will inevitably shunt; automobile risk should be an internalized, integrated social function; automobile risk should NEVER have been externalized, to the private sector, to begin with; only reason they demand insurance, is to protect corporations financing the purchase of new automobiles; they could care less, about us]. More power to the NMA. Indeed. But, if the NMA ever gets big, we fear we're in, for real trouble. Theory of bureaucratic behavior, we fear the NMA will ultimately aspire, to its own status, power and prestige (e.g., already, they're accumulating advertisers to whom they must answer). We fear they'll be easily corrupted; easily manipulated. Hope we're wrong... It's seldom we are.
